Window made of triangles

6th grade Geometry Standards:

Find the area of various triangles, special quadrilaterals and polygons,

Apply the formulas/ techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.

Activities:

- AIMS units do a great job of teaching math using a science lens. What I mean is that each series of lessons builds on the lesson before. First, they are thrown into an activity that helps them develop a theory for the area formula. Then they test their theory and finally they apply it to other situations. Everything is rooted in hands on exploration of the shapes.

Assessment:

- Problem solving application problems throughout

- Written explanations of particular problems

- Final assessment
